A patented, smokeless e-cigarette that mimics the experience of smoking without the associated health risks is gaining popularity and challenging the legal landscape for cigarette smokers worldwide.
The Electronic Cigarette which looks, tastes and feels like the old-fashioned tobacco types, does not actually burn tobacco. Upon drawing a puff from the e-cigarette, a “flow censor” is activated, releasing a nicotine vapor scented to simulate a traditional cigarette flavor. The theory is that smokers can now obtain their nicotine “fix” without exposing themselves and the people around them to the noxious agents that cigarettes produce.
Creators of e-cigarettes are rallying over the potential legal implications the device can have on smoking regulations in public places. Because they involve no tobacco, e-cigarettes can be smoked legally in restaurants, bars, airplanes and any other venues in which traditional cigarettes are banned. Electronic cigarettes can be safely used without fear of generating second-hand smoke toxins on anyone else in the smoker’s vicinity, meaning they can be safely used in the workplace without fear of bothering coworkers.
A Google search results in 12.9 million links to e-cigarettes. Their refillable cartridges can be found in different nicotine strengths (from none to full strength) and in various flavors including menthol, regular, cookies and cream and strawberry. It is important to point out that electronic cigarettes are labeled a “smoking alternative,” and not a smoking cessation tool. Still, makers claim that the device can be used as an effective aid to quit smoking that has gained popularity among consumers trying to quit the habit.
What really separates electronic cigarettes from lozenges and nicotine patches is the ability to fulfill the smoker’s tobacco cravings as well as the tactile rewards that simulate smoking traditional cigarettes. When a user draws a puff from an e-cigarette, the lungs fill with warm, tobacco-flavored smoke and upon exhaling, the lungs release smoke. Unlike the smoke from traditional cigarettes, however, electronic cigarette smoke is water vapor that evaporates immediately and does not bother people nearby.
Although different versions of electronic cigarettes have been around for years, the latest technological advances have been developed and perfected in order to allow smokers to enjoy an alternative that is satisfying and legal in any venue.
