Julia Roberts Confirms Hindu Conversion in Elle Magazine Interview

In an interview with Elle magazine, actress Julia Roberts confirms her conversion to Hinduism after experiencing a spiritual awakening while shooting her latest movie “Eat, Pray, Love” in India.
The veteran actress stars in the film adaptation of the popular Elizabeth Gilbert’s novel about the author’s own journey to India, Bali and Italy during her own spiritual pilgrimage. Gilbert’s book and screenplay capture her post-divorce search to learn about pleasure, devotion and balance.

Raised by Baptist and Catholic parents, Roberts says her husband Danny Moder and their three children, Five-year-old twins Haze and Phinnaeus and three-year-old Henry are also practicing Hindus, and says that the family regularly visits the temple to “chant, pray and celebrate.”

The movie “Eat, Pray, Love” is scheduled for release in the U.S. on August 13 and in the UK in September. While visiting India in 2009, Roberts visited the Taj Mahal Hindu temple, and was seem wearing a BINDI, a dot of color applied in the center of the forehead, a traditional forehead decoration worn by women in South Asia and Southeast Asia and often worn by Western women who have converted to Hinduism.

Even the production company owned by Roberts is called Red Om Films, a sacred symbol in Hinduism.

In the Elle interview, Roberts talks about Botox and her reasons for opting out of the cosmetic surgery craze to retain a youthful appearance.
“It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don’t even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons,” Roberts said. “I want to have some idea of what I’ll look like before I start cleaning the slates.”
